Get Ready for The Resistance!

In a fit of anti-oligarchy rancor a couple of months ago, I unpublished all three volumes of my Recall Chronicles from KDP (Amazon). Why? These were the first books I ever self-published, and in my naivety I eagerly took advantage of the “free ISBN” offered by CreateSpace (now KDP). I didn’t realize that this restricted me to distribution ONLY via Amazon. My plan is to republish all three books, but in a new format: Books 1 and 2 will come out in July as a single volume, with book 3 coming a bit later paired with the as yet unpublished book 4. All of these will publish under my own ISBN numbers so that they can be ordered and stocked by bookstores and libraries.

The Recall Chronicles are very political novels, and I had thought I might need to revise them some in light of what has happened over the past ten years. Instead, I found them to be even more pertinent today than they were ten years ago when the first book came out. A government dominated by plutocrats (aka oligarchs)? Check. A global pandemic? Check. Concern over altered images and manipulated social media? Check. Obsession with fertility and longevity? Check. A coalition of dissidents? Maybe?

Way of the Serpent pairs with Shadow of the Hare in a single volume titled The Resistance, which tells you a little about who the two main characters—Jenda Swain and Malia Poole—are. If you haven’t read the Recall Chronicles yet, get ready for a satisfying dive into a political world a hundred years hence that feels all too believable. Get ready for The Resistance!

Craving the Future

“Amid mounting evidence of the success of their Chulel formula in 2040 – the year Max and Emily Feldman both turned 100 – the two researchers had decided to retire. It would be another decade before the concept of retirement gave way to the ten-year sabbatical.

“The Drs. Feldman watched from afar the unfolding of the new world they had helped to create. When people had started turning 120, it was kind of a big deal. When their offspring started turning 100 it was an even bigger deal. When people were still around to celebrate their grandchildren’s century mark, they began to wonder where it would all end. As the Drs. Feldman began to think that they would easily reach their 200th birthdays, they started having second thoughts about the great gift they had bestowed on humankind.”

Perfect Participation

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In The Recall Chronicles’ 22nd-century world, political participation had deteriorated to the point that elections were discontinued after 2044. Could it happen? Maybe so, if we don’t heed the warnings of American hero Cesar Chavez. And if we don’t get our own act together!
